What's the best 10" sub?

I used to have MB Quartz all around with 2 10" fosgates running isobarik in a 3 cubic foot box tuned at 35hz. I now don't know didly about what's out there. I don't want to spend an incredible amount of money so I'm wondering what amp and what 10" sub to buy. I was thinking of getting the Kenwood KAC 929 amp. It has a nice crossover built in. What do you have your crossover at? I was thinking 100hz since the Bose factory are crossed over so high. I like low bass, not muddy low. JL Audio, Fosgates? Sealed, Ported? Help me out please.

There are easily 100 subs and 100 amps that will work well in most systems. The "best" is a poor word to use when asking for adivice. I currently have my sub low passed at 70 Hz. But will probably drop it lower when I replace my midbass drivers.

Subs.

If you want a really nice sub you could get a JL Audio 10 W7, but they are really expensive and need alot of power, I just got three JL Audio 12's, I had two 15's but they blew. And the W3's are a great sub I have two of those too. Never had a problem with any of em but the 15's.
See ya

What type of box are you guys using? A friend of mine gave me a JL Audio 10w1 in a prowedge box. I originally bought the Kenwood KAC 829. I hooked it all to the factory system adding a line level to RCA signal booster since the Sub outputs on the 5th gen don't have much juice. The JL blew within hours. I don't know what to contribute it to. I was thinking of just buying a 10w3 and sticking it back in the sealed box. What do you guys think? With the factory system I need a amp with a built in crossover, that's why I want to return the 829 for a 929. That should give me 460rms bridged and allow me to up the crossover from 80hz. The factory system is crossed over too damn high. The midranges aren't getting enough bass and there's too much difference with the sub at 80hz. Sealed or ported?

it's easier to go with a sealed box. it won't be as loud as ported, but the bass will be much clearer and more defined. However a well made (to the specs of the subs) and properly tuned ported box will produce loud clean earth shattering bass with some good db numbers.

PS: the Rockford HE2/HX2 and the Alpine type R subs might be worth a look in addition to the JLs.

With my old box, I continuously had people thinking I had 12's in my car. It's all in the box. It's just a pain in the butt to tune a ported box, but it's worth it in the end I guess.

this is a wives tale...with a proper box and tuning, the only difference you should hear is in output.

i have heard some ported boxes that sound better than a lot of high q sealed boxes...its all about design and build quality.

My vote...

KICKER - KICKER - KICKER

If you can afford the L7, go for it (you'll probably only need one). I hear they're pretty power hungry as well, but they're supposed to be worth it. I have a pair of old-school C-10s in a bandpass enclosure and they sound pretty good to my ears.

Whats the best 10" sub?

The one that you deduce sounds the best with the kinds of music you listen to when you go to the stores and listen to them, combined with the one that closely matches your budget (with amplification considered), and pleases your desires for space consumption.

Hehe, well...there ARE subs that make ears happy, but cost too much w/amp included, and/or maybe take up too much space

Truth is I'm jealous of the red max I always really liked the way red maximas looked
