Newbie Audio Question
Newbie Audio Question
Although I'm not a Newbie, I am to car audio. I just bought 2 infiniti kapppa perfect 12.1s on ebay, my friend knows about car audio and is building the box and doing the install for me. My questions are:
From your experiences, what are good speakers to go along with this, what size speakers would I look for, what brands?
What kind of Amp would I need, what brand and power rating?
I think I'm getting an Alpine headunit, but I like the Double Din look of the Bose, I would not like an empty slot there, what should I do? Thanks.

Re: Newbie Audio Question
There are a LOT of great speakers out there, and everyone has a personal favorite. Your best bet is to ask around and find out about a lot of good brands. After you get some recommendations go to an audio shop (stay away from retail stores) and demo some speakers. Right now I have Polk MOMO components but I'll probably soon upgrade to Diamond Hex or Focal. You need 6.5" speakers and should go with components (seperate tweeter & 6.5" speaker.)
Are you talking about an amp for your subs or for your speakers? For the subs you'll want to get close to the manuf.'s specs. I think Perfects are around 500W RMS but I know they can take more. If you give them 5-600 watts a piece you'll love'em. For the speakers it really depends on what kind you get. A good set of components should sound great with about 100W each. As for amp brands, I love JBL because of the price. If you're not on a budget you might want to look into JL, they are said to be the best but I haven't used them personally. I also have used and like Orion, Alpine, and PPI.
If you can deal with a single DIN HU, then you'll save a lot and have a lot more options too. I have the Alpine 7894 MP3 HU and love it. If you want you could go with a Pioneer deck and they have a in dash 6 CD changer available. This would probably cost you around the same as a good double din and you'll have a in dash changer too. Another option if you have the $ is an LCD screen & DVD player, but obviously this will cost major bank.
