What SUB should i buy?

I am ready to upgrade my system in my maxima. I have a Sony cdx-C90 HU from my other car and a rockford punch power 1000w amp for my sub. But there is one problem, i don't know what sub to buy. I want SPL but i am picky when it comes to sound quality. I only want to put one sub (12") to conserve space in my trunk so that is why i need the SPL but i need it to sound GOOD. I have had couple of names thrown at me, such as the JBL w12GTI and the JL audio w6's(new version) and w7's(new version) however i have not been able to hear them. Would u recommend any of the above? Any other subs that you would recommend instead? Cost is not much of a factor in my decision. Also, is there a place where i can buy a good, strong sub box that would suit my needs instead of having one custom built ?

thanks in advance

well, my first thought was a shiva or tempest, but cost no object...you might consider a brahma. yeah i know, everybody has one (i have a pair ), but there's also the idmax (i dont like image dynamics), and the w7 (i dont like jl subs anymore ), but there's also the resonant engineering hc series or xxx series...the latter being the top dog in the lineup, and built off technology from the brahma.

I have to represent the Treo name....

http://www.teamtreo.com/view.php?showme=CSX_Series

Havent heard the CSXs (top-line with SSXs apparently) but my 12.22 SS (2nd to top) has a decent balance for me...SPL-biased, but still with decent SQ. (I have my 12" in a 1 cu ft sealed enclosure though).

But yea, brahmas seem to have better driver technology that most of the comparable competition out there.

I would listen to some single twelve's in trunk before decideing. A few people think my single twelve hits harder and deeper than their dual twelve's. There is a lot that can be done with an enclosure to get a few more dB's and cleaner sound as well. See if there is anyone on the org in your area with a system you could hear.

I REALLY like the Infinity Kappa Perfects. They are a little bit cheaper than the others that people are suggesting.... but hey, who doesn't want to save money? I have seen nothing but good reviews on these..... and I have heard many Infinity sound systems...... and they all sound great. Let us know what you decide.

Oh yea, and as for the box..... I would go to a local custom audio shop, and they should be able to build you a really nice box that fits your sub and trunk perfectly.

The Kicker L7's are nice...i've got 2 10's and their loud and sound really good. You also might consider Digital Designs. The 9500 series are sweet. One DD9510 hit 169.8 db...thats loud. My best advice would be to listen to everything that you can.

Re: What SUB should i buy?

There aren't a lot of 12s that can take that power. The JL w7, Image Dynamics IDMAX (what I have), Adire Brahma, RE XXX are a few that would work. All 4 of those are meant to take at least 1kw and sound great while doing it. The IDMAX would be the cheapest, the JL would cost the most. All 4 are really great subs and there really is no "best" or "worst" IMO, but I haven't heard a XXX or w7. I'd tell you to go with the IDMAX simply because I have one and love it, but I really haven't heard anyone whose actually owned one of these woofers have too many bad things to say about them. In any case try to listen to a woofer before you purchase one. You should be able to find a JL or Image Dynamics dealer in your area, but the Brahma and XXX aren't sold in stores, so you'll have a hard time trying to find a demo.

Go to http://audioenvy.com - Or something really similar to that address. They have an adire owner service online. Owners who are willing to let you hear the subs are nationwide. Rather than hearing the sub in a store, with huge power supply and amp, you can hear it in a car with real world conditions.
