Does anyone have a double wide head unit?

By double wide I mean that takes up the bin for hte regular stock radio, and the storage bin beneath it? I am thinking about doing this if i can find one that fits. Anyone have any suggestions?

I just had a pioneer cd/dvd/nav unit put in my 2k2, and they put both pieces (each is a single din) right into the dash. They had to order a special kit for the outside, however it came out really nice and fit perfectly...since 2 single dins fit I would assume that a double din system would work as well..and now that I think about it, the stock 2k2 on my SE was a double din

The term you would be looking for is "double din". Saying double wide could be misleading.

There are several companies that make them...Eclipse,Pioneer,Kenwood,Clarion,etc..

Figure on your budget, and what functions you would require to run your system, and then I may be able to help you choosing one.

the power ratings on the cd players are absolutely worthless. they list them as peak power, which doesnt mean anything. if you have a cd player rated at 22 watts rms/45 peak (like a lot of kenwoods) its rated much differently than amplifiers. the cd player is rated at 1 kHz @ 1% thd, and afaik, its at 14.4 volts. whereas the good amplifiers are usually rated at .01% thd, many are rated at a frequency at other than 1 kHz, and many are rated at 12.5 volts.

bottom line, a good amplifier rated at 20 watts rms x 4 will kill a cd player in terms of performance. a lot of cheaper amps will outperform them too.
