I just swapped out my memphis st 500d amp for a JL audio 500/1 amp, however I now have a problem of the JL amp shutting off intermittenly, it is not overheating or setting off any of the low OHM or warning lights, could anyone tell me what could cause it to somehow shut off by itself and the come back on? Any help would be very helpful, by the way I am pushing 2 10W3 D4's.

 

You aren't using the current sensing on/off and not a remote wire are you?

 

Yes, I am currently. I am seriously thing about hooking up the remote wire and the remote sensor off when I get home from work. What do you guys think?

 

I have heard a few problems with the current sensing. I would definitely switch to a remote line and turn the current sensing off. A quick way to see if this will resolve the problem...turn the current sensing off, and put a jumper between the incoming power to the amp and the remote lead and go for a drive.

Are you using an aftermarket HU? If so hook up the remote wire. It was made ONLY for using with stock HU, having no preouts.

You should only use it when you have a high level input to the amp, this it how it senses, if you are using the preouts from an aftermarket HU they are only sending a signal.

What else do you have running? You shouldnt actually need a cap for just that amp.

I have an alpine V12 four channel amp (i forgot which model) that I am going to hook up to my mids and highs once I get it back from the shop.

 

With those amps you'd probably be better off putting your cap money to a nice battery or just saving it altogether. Try it w/o a cap first you shouldn't have too many problems.
