PAC-SWI adapter--obtrusive? (and more)

Still reading/considering my stereo options.

Thanks to this forum, I now know about the PAC-SWI adapter for the remote controls. I looked it up on Crutchfield. Those boxes look large--after installation, are they hidden somewhere, or do they sit out in the open. That would be an ugly option for me, but I'm ignorant of how this works. Before I chunk out the 70 bucks, I was wondering if anyone's installed them, and if those box parts (both the LED and the little black box) are hidden or out in the open.

More questions:

I have some Sony 6 x 9's that I like. Crutchfield doesn't give an option for installing those in the rear door--can this be done, and like my other question--is it obtrusive?

If the 6 x 9's can't be done, and the PAC-SWI adapter is too noticeable for my taste, how about an amplifier and some 6 x 5's (that Crutchfield says fits) with the stock head unit?

Thanks for any and all suggestions.

The PAC main unit is hidden wherever you wish, normally behind the dash close to the headunit. It comes with several feet of thing wire with an IR "eye" at the end which you're supposed to hide somewhere. Some have done it in the console while others put it just behind the rearview mirror. Anywhere is fine as long as it has the headunit's IR receiver in vew.

As for the 6x9's, it will not fit on the doors. Your option for using it is to install it in the rear deck - that will entail cutting out portions of it (e.g. custom installation).

Thank you for your reply, soundmike, that was very informative. I appreciate it.

If I could ask one more question-->are 6 x 5's the speakers that fit in the doors, then?

I don't want to cut the rear deck, or have it cut--I've been trying to elimnate rattles in this car, and it would seem those would increase.

Thanks again.

For the doors, the maximum i've seen people go is 6.5". I personally have 6.5" on all four doors, they install fine with the proper brackets which you can easily get from an audio shop.

The PAC SWI-X can be had from ClubGP.com for $57. Do a search on installing it, there's a good write-up somewhere in here. It's sounds more confusing then it really is.

Hey Craig, did the nose mask ever tighten up to fit the front bumper? Judging from the photo in your Cardomain page it looks like it's a bit loose.

Btw, as for the Scosche kit, you might wanna glue the top part of the pocket like i did. It looks so much better that way

The nose mask is a pain! I usually just run with the hood part since that's paint on harder steel vs. paint on the plastic bumper. I even got the Nissan OEM mask thinking it would be the best. The weather here in PA is always changing so you always have to take it off and dry it, wash the car; you know the deal. The worst problem is at the sides where you can see what I mean. There's only two clips and the furthest one back won't reach behind the fender clip that's there. My friend has a LeBra for his Eclipse and it has at least four clips to mount to the fender well. Plus the small flap by the headlight doesn't stay forward as the elastic band pulls it straight back instead of toward the engine.

Yeah I've been meaning to get around to straightening out the trim piece. I've been so busy Raamating and such. I may end up putting my EQ in place of the pocket.
