best sub location for SQ
best sub location for SQ
I've read a lot of the previous posts about sub location, but I still am undecided. Here is a bit of background. I don't need a very loud system, I just want to add some musical bass. Only occasionally will I really turn it up. I am oing to be keeping the stock Bose HU, and using a PAC adapter to change out the fronts for a pair of components, probably Infinity Kappas powered by a Sony ES amp (XM 5026). I used to have a CRX with ADS speakers and a single 10" Polk DB sub (sealed box facing up) and Loved that system. That's to give you n idea of the sound that i like.
For my max, I want really tight and accurate bass. I liked the sound of my crx and so for the max, I was thinking of putting a single 10 in the rear deck in a sealed enclosure. I have been to a few stereo shops and they all think this is a bad idea, and suggest that a box in the rear corner of the trunk facing the opposite side (or back) will be better for what I want. Is this true, and if not, what other ideas do you guys have. I have extensive fabrication experience, so I can build almost anything. A previous idea was to replace the center armrest with a sealed encosure for a 10, but I like having the storage space there. Also, what sub do you guys think? I was thinking Alumapro Alchemy DVC 10.

Face the sub towards the rear of the car in the trunk. Put it as close to the back wall of the trunk as you can get away with.
I have a single JL 10w0-4 getting 150 watts and it provides more than enough bass for a well-rounded sound at all volume levels.

by back wall of the trunk, do you mean closer to the rear of the car or closer to the rear of the seat? thanks

This could be totlly wrong, so please correct me if that is so. I'm guessing that by putting the sub towards the rear, we want the reflected sound waves. If this is so, then wouldn't the rear have to be deadened so as to reflect the waves instead of absorbing and radiating the waves to the outside of the vehicle. Also, putting the sub in the trunk is making the trunk act like a bandpass box. Doesn't a bandpass type enclosue make for boomier bass, at the cost of speed and accuracy? I don't have much experience with stereos in sedans, but the ones I have heard have suffered from delayed bass. Wouldn't facing the sub towards the rear increase the time delay and further the delay? Again, if my logic is wrong, please let me know.

I like the idea of the deck mounted 10..
then again I'm a big fan of the hatchback sound.. and that's about as close as you're gonna get with a sedan..
