Basically, any type of copper wiring, preferrably stranded (18 gauge or better).

I used a 14ga for mine, typically 14 ga is the norm.

I always wondered about that. Why am I running 12 ga. from my amp to the box? When I opened it up in the past it seems like all that thick wire I'm running in the car was for nothing

Typically the wire inside the box is only like a foot long. It doesn't really require a heavy gauge wire for that long of a run. Basically the longer the run the heavier wire you should use.

12ga's all i had laying around...so i used that.
Also got 12ga for everything else: cabin speakers, amp, subs... like i said, i just had the stuff laying around.
oh yeah, that's in my bro's 93 SE 5sp.

I'm buying some 0ga power wires for hypergrounding. Since I'm getting it at a good price, I'm thinking of buying some extra to use as an amp power wire. That's ok, right?
