Cheapest way to add CD?

I have a 92 Maxima SE with Bose system. It doesn't have a CD player, only cassette which isn't even working, and radio of course. I have little money at the moment, but wondering what's the cheapest/easiest way to add CD-playing capability to my car?

cassette adapter and a portable cd player (which you likely already have). the sound quality isn't great, but the setup is pretty cheap.

Unfortunately as I said above, the cassette player isn't working. At least not with regular cassette. When I put a cassette in it would make clicking noise like it was trying to switch sides (A to B, etc) that would not stop. It usually won't eject the cassette out too, without some 'persuasion'. Do you think it'll still work with cassette adapter?

Depends on how good of a CD player you want, as far as options and quality. You can definately get a CD player for under $100. I would recommed changing out your head unit for a new one.

But problem is the stock bose already have pretty good sound quality...

Also, wouldn't I have to replace all speakers in a Bose system to do that, as they won't work with a different headunit? That would up the cost very quickly, especially for a system that would sound as good (or better) as the Bose...

Before my 2k3 SE I had a 93 SE and I replaced the stock HU with a Sony and ran new wires to the speakers. Reason I did this is because at each speaker there is a bose amp, basically you do not want to have a high (a lot of watts) signal going to the input of an amp. I would recommed this to anyone, the internal amp on my sony sounded better than the BOSE system IMO.

So you run the new wires from the HU directly to the speakers and ignoring the factory wires and the amps?

Hmmm, sounds good, a new HU will look better too. I guess I just have to save up to get a good quality head unit. Which would be better for a given money (say $170), an entry level model from a well known brand (Alpine, Kenwood etc.) or a mid level model from a less established brand (Aiwa, JVC, etc.)?

Cheap and new Nissan 6-CD changer

Happened to find this site:
https://www.1stnissanparts.com/acata...seout_154.html

I purchased the same one before for $119 shipped to the door, so to me this is the second cheapest one.

Whoa! Interesting. So how does this connect to the factory head unit?

My 96 GXE is not a BOSE unit so it was a true plug and play. Just plug in cables that come with the CD changer.

Thanks folks!

Some kind hearted soul from this forum just offered me a Clarion CD-Changer that plays through FM channel for $70. Looks like a good, affordable way to add CD playing capability! Multiple CDs too!

Do you know if it's possible to install the CD changer somewhere in the interior? You know, maybe below the passenger seat or somewhere. So you don't have to get out of the car and go to the trunk to change CDs.
