I was thinking of building a box for my amp with plexiglass on the front, right behind the rear seat. To keep the amp from overheating, I would place a small fan blowing upwards on the amp and leave a hole at the top of the box and put a metal grill to release the hot air. I have a Rockford Fosgate 2.9x 275watt amp. I was also thinking of placing a neon light in the box. What do you guys think of this and would the neon light create too much heat in the box? Also, I live in Canada so the summers don't get extremely hot.

The neon will produce a fair bit of heat. If you want to do that, you'll need to make sure you have at least 2" of clearance, preferably 3" above the amps, and have several moderately powerful fans blowing air across the tops of the amps. You'll also want to make sure there is a clear path for airflow, i.e. well cut out entrance and exits into the enclosure.

What is the best way to secure the amp rack. I was thinking of screwing a hole in the back seats or laying a piece of plywood on the trunk floor and drilling into that. If I decide to drill into the back seats, what exactly am I drilling into?

On the back seat is perfect.

Just take off the seat back , and drive screws from the sheet metal into the trunk, then put the seat back on.

What type of screws should I use? Also, how many screws do I have to remove from the back seat for it to come off. A few days ago I tried to remove it and I gave up, maybe because it was -25 degrees celcius outside.

I used drywall screws

Thas what I had laying around. Use some just long enough to go through the sheet metal and hold the rack securely without going all the way through. Once you pop the seat bottom off,(2 latches in front of the seat, there are 2 bolts at the bottom of the seat back(one on each side). Remove them, and lift the seatback up and off the tabs at the top. Nothing to it.

Is there a hole behind the rear seat back to run the wires to the trunk?

Coupla questions, Nathan....

You are building the box for fun and for the love of your car, right? (And you know there's not really a big reason to put an amp in a box unless you have to?)

And two... (forgive me if I have misunderstood) Do you have 1 JL Audio 12W0, the 8 ohm version? Why the 8 ohm version? Are you planning on adding a second woofer later?

There is a gap

under the sheet metal panel the runs the entire width of the back seat. Once it's removed, you'll see it.

There are a few reasons why I want to build a box for the amp. First, I am building the box for the love of the car like you said. Second, I usually have stuff in my trunk and don't want the amp to be damaged. And third, it want to have something unique. For the sub, I ended up buying a 12W0 8ohm because I had no choice since I bought it off ebay. And yes, I may add another sub when I get enough funds.
