Wiring Problem. Verification Needed
Wiring Problem. Verification Needed
Last night I installed my 5 Channel Alpine V12 amp to my 5th Gen Non-Bose System. I am ugrading my system one step at a time, and the HU will be closer towards the end of the process. I used two line output converters, which I placed behind the Factory HU. I then ran 2 sets of RCA cables and 4 14ga. speaker wires from the HU to the amp in the trunk. I then cut all of the speaker wires behind the harness. I spliced the wires from the harness into the line output converters. I spliced the new speaker wires into the factory speaker wires that run to the doors. Of course I ran my power cable from the battery and a remote power wire from the HU. I currently have my remote wire tapped into the green wire with a white stripe. I grounded the converters to the chassis behind the HU.
My question is this: When I have the radio on, everything works fine. When I switch to CD, nothing plays. I think the problem is that my remote wire is tapped into the antenna wire and not the purple switched power wire. If I retap my remote power into the switched power wire, will this solve my problem? Also, should I run a ground wire from my converters and ground them in the trunk where my amp is grounded? Any help is appreciated.

Well, as far as the remote wire, switch it and see if your stereo works. If not, oh well.......time to buy another radio.........
The grounds for your converters should be grounded close to the converion source. It'll keep out the high pitch whine that the alternator makes when the engine is running.

I tapped into the purple wire, and now my remote wire is correct. I did ground close to the conversion, but I was curious if it was better to ground with the amp. Thanks for your help.
