is it smarter/sound better to go with two 10's or 1 12?

It's not quite that easy. Most twelve's will have almost twice the surface area of a ten made by the sme company and in the same series. Also similar X-max. But for the most part only almost as much. This means that a twleve can move almost as much air as a pair of tens. And it will do it with the same amount of power as one ten. But it's not the best choice in every situation or with comparing two subs by different makers or different series.

smarter (meaning more economical): 1 12"
- cheeper cost than 2 10s
- less power needed than 2 10s
- less trunkspace used than 2 10s

sounds better (possibly debatable): 2 10"s
- about 1.3-1.4X the surface area as 1 12"
- but perhaps not quite the low freq. extension as 1 12"

The "sounds better" part is somewhat trival and depends on manufacturer, install, what you like, etc. If it were me, I would go with 1 good 12" over spending the same money on 2 cheap 10s.

Ask an audiophile, I'd get a fifteen for sub bass. A ten for mid bass. Unless it's a brahma or something similar a ten doesn't have the needed low end response in my opinion.

If you don't like bass, don't get anything and call it a sub. That's what a sub is designed to do, therefore the name. If you want hard hitting midbass, get a good set of midbass drivers. A sub shouldn't get any signal above 60-70 hz. Midbass is 60-250 hz. Midbass belongs up front in the kicks or doors.

And a boxter is sufficient to say you have a porche.

I'd have to agree with jmax on this one..

and there is no such thing as "too much bass". I have never seen a system where the bass couldn't be turned down relative to higher frequencies/drivers. it it's "too much bass" for your taste, turn it down.

The adire audio Vamp. Originaly made for a dipole speaker. Has great specs for a ported box, or a tiny sealed box. And dual 4 ohm coils gives you a two ohm load for a normal mono sub amp. There are too many amps to fit on this page that will work with this sub.

I don't know......... I am using one Sony Xplod 1200w subwoofer ($149)
and I am pushing that with a Cantus 600w amplifer. Does the job well and I'm getting good vibes from my friends and co-workers about it. Just go for what you got in your wallet............
