Need help with Subs
Need help with Subs
I need help choosing subs. At first I was going to get the basslink, but some audio sales guy told me it was a little weak..he tried to convince me to buy a pair of jensens 12s, power acoustik amp, and box for $250, but I was like nope I have to do some research.
Since the basslink is going to cost $220 shipped, I was wondering if I can buy ONE sub, amp, and box around that price. I am looking more toward sound quality. I want it to shake my car pretty good when I want it to(showoff to friends etc), but I just want something that sounds good overall.
Subs that are in my price range:
Kicker CompVR $70
MTX Thunder ~$70
Kicker Solobaric L5 $110
RF HE 12" $70
RF HE2 12" $100
RF HX2 12" $120
CDT AUDIO 10" $80 150 watts rms
I want an amp for around $100.
Hows lightning audio?
US acoutics?
power acoutiks?
which combination would you recommend? for one sub and amp. Please include models of amps if you are familiar with those brands...thanks. I am getting something soon from my gf as a xmas gift so i need to kno which to get.

US Acoustic amps are far and away better than the other two you mentioned. As far as the subs go the CDT Minibox is in a totally different category than the others. The CDT is an all SQ sub (and a good one at that). It will not give you as much of the car rattling effect. The others are more budget subs which might be somewhat louder but not nearly as clean sounding. Have you considered a 12" Adire Shiva For $5-10 more than the others you are looking at it has better SQ (except the CDT) and will still give you the volume that you might be occasionally after. Wire its DVC in parallel to a bridged US Acoustics USX-2100 and I think you'll be happy. You might also consider an Image Dynamics IDQ10 or 12 if you can find a good deal on ebay.

How about the US acoustic USX2080 which makes 280 watts bridged and 80 watts x 2 channels. The USX 2100 makes only 20 watts more while the usx2080 costs $40 less at $82.99 and the usx2100 cost 122.99.
Combinations I am thinking about now:
USx2080 280 watts($83) and adire shiva 12"($125)
USx2080 280 watts(83) and CDT 10"(80) but I think this is too much power for the sub.
Or substitute usx2080 with usx2100 which makes only 20 more watts and cost 40 dollars more.
I am leaning toward the first combo...What do u guys think? any suggestions would be awesome because I am new to all this audio stuff. Thanks.

On the ampman.com website it says the adire shiva has dual 8 ohm coils. Since the us acoustic amp does 4 ohm is it compatible? what does 8, 4, 2 mean?

Yeah, the 2080 would probably be fine. [/QUOTE

I forgot to mention this will be hooked to my stock non-bose headunit on my 2002 maxima. Will the sound quality and power still be decent? I know the usx amp has hi level inputs. How does the amp and sub turn on? does it sense the signal or i need a switch? sorry for all the questions I am new to all this audio stuff.

The 8,4,2 refers to the impedance of the voice coil. In the case of the Shiva, it has a dual voice coil (not two voice coils, but rather one that is wound twice). This means there will be two sets of terminals. Each coil has a 8 ohm load. If you wire positive to positive and negative to negative (parallel) you will have a total load of 4 ohms, the proper load for the amp you are looking at.
