Question about sub.

I just installed a Polk Audio sub with an Alpine V12 amp hooked up to a line level converter connected to my OEM headunit. However, the sub seems to thump way too much rather than a smooth bass. I've tried adjusting the converter to a lower level output, but it only weakens the signal going to the sub. Any reason why my sub is doing this? Hope it's not blown.

Bose or non-Bose HU? Does the v12 amp have speaker-level inputs?

My bose-equipped GLE did the same thing when I used a LOC, but when I did a direct-connect from the speaker signal to the speaker inputs (and did NOT use the LOC), it improved greatly and now sounds good. Before it was all muddy. Ugh!

try out what patrick said, in his post above. if that doesn't help it could be your sub or your enclosure. what kind of box do you have?

It is non Bose and the Alpine amp does come with a speaker level input. Where can buy the harness for that?

If you have the directions to the amp, it should tel you how to wire it up. THere will not be a harness. You will have to use "T" splices to tap off of the signal, unless you want to completely disable the rear speakers.

I took the sub out of the box to find the paper cover over the voice coil unglued. Does this mean that I have a blown sub? Or is this something that I can glue back together?
