Ohm Questions w/ subs

Well I am back. The .org fixed my last audio problem so I hope you can help me here. A friend of mine told me that the subwoofers and the amp need to have the same ohm rating or the amp would burn up. I have a RF 400s and it does:
100 W X 2 @ 4 Ohms RMS
200 W X 2 @ 2 Ohms RMS
400 W X 1 @ 4 Ohms Bridged RMS
The two Pioneer IMPP 10's I have are rated at 4 ohms. Is there a problem with this and will I burn up anything. They sure sound good right now. Thanks!

Your friend is a moron. Tell him to stop pretending.

IT matters that the amp is stable at a given ohm load.

You can only get 100x2 stable watts out of that amp.

You need to hook them up in stereo or bridged with series wiring. Two 4 ohms subs can be connected parallel at 2 ohms bridged, or series at 8 ohms bridged. You sill not be able to take advantage of full power from the amp

The reason that you want to match the load (subs) with the source (amp) is because you achieve maximum power transfer during this situation. Not so that it doesn't blow up your amp.

Thanks again for the help! I am new to all of this so I really don't know anything about subs. I am just going to leave it how it is for now since it sounds good.

I'd say 100x2 is your best bet. As others have said, if you hook them up bridged parallel it will be 2 ohms. That can burn out your amp. Trust me! In series, it will be 8ohms. Hooking them up stereo will be your best bet.

I have them hooked up in stereo right now. How do I know if they are 100x2 or 200x2 and does it matter. What I really want to know is if my current configuration is safe. Thanks.

Because you have a 4ohm load. It's safe 100x2 is what yo8r getting. At least by those specs.

What he said....each speaker is 4ohms, so your only getting 100W per speaker. If they were 2ohm speakers, you would get 200 per speaker. kind of messed up, because if you had two more 4ohm subs you could pair two on each channel and the amp would push 200 per channel. that would still mean 100W per sub, just 4 subs instead of two.
