Best sub under $200?

I was thinking of upgrading my subwoofer from a 10" to a 12". I was wondering, what would be the best deal for under 200 dollars? Im not worried about the amp yet, nor am I worried about the box. Im gonna make a custom box when I get the sub. And the amp, my dad is probably going to buy for me. Any suggestions? Thanks.

My vote is for the Image Dynamics IDQ 12 but it depends on what qualities you are looking for in a sub and where you plan to purchase (retail store, online, ebay, etc.)

Brett

P.S. DA = Diamond Audio

What about just adding another 10 to your setup Chris? If you are going to get a 12, you should probably make it two, because you won't be incredibly satisfied just by adding one 12.

2 10's will definately give more base, but I like my single 12 better. I was so against 12's for so long until I tried one in my car. Go to Don (Pearl96Max) for your audio stuff. Awesome prices and customer service.

exactly what kind of response are you looking for? how much power will you be feeding it? how much space are you willing to give up to the box? there are a ton of parameters when considering a sub...a lot of different classes out there.

MTX Thunder 6000 if you have a Circuit City in your city check and see if they have a special on them. I just bought 2 for less than $200 the deal is you buy one at regular price and get the other one for 75% off, but see if they would give you a package deal in which you pay $139 for one and $20 for the second one. Also they don't need a whole lot of power to make them sound good and they can be put in a small box.

I have a single DA M6D4 12" in a 1.0 ft^3 box in the trunk of my Maxima getting fed 600W RMS x 1 from a DA 1200.1 D5 amp.

I have NEVER heard anyone complain about the lack of any bass sound in my car

Not to mention to accuracy of this sub is unreal. Once again, go to Don for all your car audio needs. Damn man is snowed on and he can't work right now!

I wish I could go to Don for my car audio because there is very few good shops here in Reno, NV but since I do my own installation it makes up for the high install price.

BWUHAHAHAH! I have heard those, and I bet you have not heard a shiva or elemental. And oh yeah, did I mention that i compete in 301-600W amateur IASCA sound quality competitions? I have never heard a judge give one complaint on the quality of the low end.

And this means what to me? First of all yes I have seen/heard/installed many of them, and I myself as well as the customers that have them will not compare them. Your amatuer competition status means absolutely nothing to me, Im guessing that my 15+ years of experience means nothing to you as well correct?

First of all my reply of "ya sure about that" was to your quote of "not for $125" So yes I can own one cheap

Second of all please inform me how a Shive is in a better league than a DA M6

its not worth your time to argue about the quality of a sub you have not heard, i would think that with your '15 years of experience' you would know that. as such, i will not discuss the qualities of the SHIVA with you since it is a waste of my time until you hear one. and i do agree that your sub is good, no question, but for my purposes, it would not have been good enough, it was quick, but not as crisp as i wanted, and requires more EQing for the response i needed with my crossover type. for some installations, it could be ideal, i am all for cheap subs. i see no reason to pay $400+ for a sub unless all you care about is SPL, because, while there are some good high end SQL subs like the IDMax and W7, the sound quality of an IDQ is definitly comporable to those just with less volume. there is another great cheap sub though, the Image Dynamics IDQ.

and if you think arguing that your sub is the greatest out there, even limiting a price range, then well, i guess we both are fools, since the sub is only as good as the installation, crossover, power, etc. i do not claim the shiva is better than anything else out there, but i do guarantee that you will not be at all dissapointed if you ever get the priveledge of hearing one.

dude, i am not trying to start a fight with you, why are you so insistant on being rude? maybe if you would just respect what i have to say by reading it closely you would see that i do not say that YOU claim it is the greatest sub. and you are totally avoiding the point anyway.

i got two shiva subs, for the price, its actually a great deal, 132 shipped after tax. Unfortunately, my first sub, the silver connect popped off but with my new subs i havent had problems. However, i put them to the test with a few cars. If i put the volume to a pretty good peak, the subs arent THAT accurate. They dont go great with the beat, they are only 350 watts vs. the one's don sell for same price and they are 500 watts. Plus shiva's are discontinued now and the upgrades are beacoup dollars.

125 for a 350 watt sub is a great price but the diamond audio sub that don sells is same price and 500 watts, looks A LOT better, diamond audio is clearer than shiva's, i would go with them, both are DEFINITELY stronger than W3's, do NOT go with those

W3s are good subs, but once again for the money, there is better. A 12" W3 can take about 500-600 watts rms in the proper box all day. JL has a very conservative rating on their subs.

Why does everyone use the power rating to compare the sound quality of subs. I guess that makes a "1500W RMS" Audiobahn sub the best out there. This is foolishness. It would probably be better to pick a random sub name out of a hat than pick the one with the highest power rating. If you are going to compare subs, at least use some specs that mean something.

I was just showing that the w3 can run with some of those other choices in terms of power handling. Yes I realise that doesnt make it a better sounding sub.

the shivas are not meant to be an SPL sub, so i dont know how loud you were running them, but mine only hit a smidge over 120dB at max excursion which is not that loud. and you are running them off of a class D amp that has pretty poor damping which is exaggerated at high volumes, if thy are sloppy, it is because of the power they are getting, because i have never heard my subs miss a beat. they are rated at 600Wrms in a very small box, so i dont know what kinf of box you have, but that will certainly affect sound quality. and also, the shiva is not discontinued.
