The changer should decode the MP3 files and then send it to the HU. So you don't need a HU that play MP3 for the changer to work. You may have to make sure that the changer works with your HU unless the changer is hooked up via a FM modulator. Then the changer would work for all HU. I have the Sony MP3 10 disc changer hooked up to a stock non-Bose HU and I love it.
