Well, Saturday morning i started my car and the subs just sounded bad, I could barely hear them actually. I have a 2 channel amp going to 2 subs. Now, when both subs are hooked up, it sounds very muffled and distorted but if i unplug 1 sub, then the other sub hits real nice and hard. Same thing vice versa with the other sub. Any ideas?

 

wrong load??? under powered????

 

Get a DMM and measure the electrical resistance of the subs. They shoud measure the same and if they are 4 Ohm they should measure in the neighborhood of 3 Ohms. You mihgt have had a wire pop off one of your subs.

 

double check your speaker wires from the amp to the speakers. If one is connected backwards(+ to -, - to +), the speakers will cancel each other out. What happens is one speaker is pushing and the other will be pulling(because it's backwards). This balances out the airflow and you will barely hear anything from them.

 

That was the first thing i checked. The weird part is, it worked fine Friday night, didn't touch with any settings, didnt even go into trunk, and it just stopped.

 

still sounds like a polarity issue.(sorry, i'm stubborn) I would try switching one of the subs speaker wires around, just to see. The worst that happens is that it still doesn't sound ok. other than that, i would have to guess trouble with the amp. You've already determained that the subs work. Is your amp bridgeable? Try it one channel, instead of two channel

 

Ive tried what you suggested and the amp is bridgable, it says that clearly on the amp and I have been running the subs bridged every since i got them.

 

OK....hmm...are the subs 4ohm, 8ohm, 2ohm?? Also, have you tried them two channel? If your amp is only rated 4ohms into one channel and you have two 4ohm subs connected(in parrallel), that's a 2ohm load on a 4ohm amp. That could be your problem. If you haven't and can, try hooking them to separate channels.

Bummer! On a guess, I'd say it sounds like the amp may be damaged. You say it works with one hooked up. Maybe if you hooked them in series, you can get them both going. This will raise the impedence of the two speakers. EX: two 4ohm speakers - parrallel=2ohms, series=8ohms. You'll loose some power, but it may work for ya

in case you don't know how to series them.....

(amp +)--->(speaker1 +)(speaker1 -)--->(speak2 +)(speak2 -)-->(amp -)

Try the old 9 vlt battery trick. When you put a wire on positive and the speaker instead of pushing out. It pulls in your connection are backwards. Good luck
