My parents are giving me their 1998 Maxima SE with the premium stereo but not the Bose. One of the conditions of them giving me the car is that I don't do anything to it. Unfortunatley....this "premium" stereo sucks so I need to replace it. I have to replace the stereo in such a way that my parents don't notice it which means I have to keep the stock HU. What kind of limitations does this place on the type of speakers/whole stereo i can have?

err... i'm not sure what you're asking, but you can do a PEQ btwn the amp and the HU and get better speakers.
