ibm thinkpad

im gonna buy a laptop soon.
looking at a thinkpad t20... 700 mhz processor, sdram etc...
i need feedback from those who have OWNED or those with EXTENSIVE USE of a thinkpad.

my main concerns are: build quality, how well they work for hours on end, heat, and what has failed...

if you can suggest a better brand, i might consider it but i think i want an ibm laptop right now.

thanks

kevin

Why such a low processor speed? First off the IBM's are very good laptops. They do get hot and their batteries drain fairly quickly. I've owned a couple thinkpads and have loved them. I currently own a toshiba. Here's the specs and the price I got from Best Buy over X-Mas.

2 ghz P4
40 gb Hard Drive
DVD/CDRW Combo drive
256 mb DDR Ram
15" Screen
Nvidia GeForce 420 Video Card
3 USB ports
Floppy Drive

$649

It's heavy, but how could I pass the price up for a brand new laptop!

I just bought a used T21 from eBay for $650. 800Mhz 20GB 128MB DVD floppy itegrated ethernet + modem...

I've had two laptops for my job: first a T20 and now a T23. I abused the T20 extensively, both physically and software-wise. It took everything I dished out. Running 2000 it crashed like three times in a year, and that's with Oracle, ATG Dynamo, Photoshop, Outlook, a few SQL*Plus sesssions and a handful of IE windows giving it hell. I was impressed enough to go out and buy the T21 mentioned above. There's probably cheaper alternatives out there, but both my previous T-series IBMs never missed a beat.

Try sending Kevincleff a PM or an email. He can get you a deal on laptops.

Go for the think pad vs. other brands. I have used different think pads for the past 7 years. No complaints! I have a T30 right now

He was asking about a particular model and not thinkpads themselves. 700mhz let's me know that this particular laptop is way out of date.
