Okay, so my stereo setup sucks and I know it. I knew it was going to be temporary and the time has come to replace it. Right now I have a Pioneer P2000 cd player which I am perfectly happy with. I am not looking to replace it. What I am looking to replace is the crap speakers I bought, but I want to be sure I'm making the right decision by replacing these speakers. Right now I have http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S...SG4611&o=M&a=0 in the front and http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S...SG1645&o=M&a=0 these in the rear. All four of these speakers are the lowest line of the Pioneer line and I got what I paid for. There is little bass (I know that 4x6"s don't give much bass) at low levels and only when I crank it up does it start to boom a little. Right around that point the speakers distort and can't go any higher. I am not looking to go any higher than where they begin to distort because I rarely listen at that level, but I do want something that has more midbass (I know I need a sub for true bass). What I am looking for is a good set of replacement speakers that will give a little more boom for the buck. I don't have the $$$$ to buy an amp so I am running all four speakers off the 22x4 watt continuous, 45x4 watt peak MOSFET power that my Pioneer headunit provides. I am looking to put 6.75" in the rear and 6.5" in the front in custom pods like quite a few other people here have done. Here are the two models I am looking at:
http://www.globe-mart.com/audvid/car...5/TS-A1695.htm
http://www.globe-mart.com/audvid/car...5/TS-A1795.htm
Both models have a built in 12db X-over that should keep the distortion to where I want it and allow the woofer to put out clear midbass. Am I doing the right thing in buying new speakers or will I see little change over my $100 speakers? Thanks.

same situation

hey cincy
i am in the same situation. i have an 89 max with basically the same pioneer speakers but a different pioneer hed unit. as of now, i bought 2 12" subs (mtx thunders for 100 bucs together) and ordered a 4 channel amp. i so know what you mean about lack of bass. i ordered a 4 channel amp (75x4) and also ordered a box abaout a half hour ago. i plan on running 2 channels to the rear speakers, 2 cahnnels to the subs, and using the stock amp to power the fronts. i dont know if this works cause i just ordered the system today. i am going to spend about 4oo for the subs, amp, cap, box, and accessories. i still ahve to buy some speakers.
keep in touch with what you do to your system. ill let you know how mine sounds when its in

what I have found is that not only adding two 10" woofers but especially in a bandpass box is that you will need speakers inside that have alot of trebble or add some more tweeters because the bass overpowers just about everything if you dont have enough mid and high range freq.

sub...

Although I would love to add a couple JL 12W3 to the trunk, have very little $$$$ and I am staying away from buying subs. I just want some 6.5"s that can kick with relatively low power(22watts from the headunit). The speakers I have right now have little bass and decent highs. The sad part is that my friends' factory systems put out more bass than my Pioneer system. I'm pushing more power than them, so I figure it's the crap speakers that I bought. Can anyone suggest some decent 6.5"s and 6.75"s that will deliver some punch with little power and are under $200 for all four speakers? Thanks.

I got a suggestion

hey man i got a killer system that i got over the christmas break

well my friend works at this car audio place and got me some cool crap but no discout

but what i have is a kenwood deck $175 (kinda old i put it in last summer) a boss eq $35 (which i love) going into a 800a4 rockford amp $350 , for my speakers i got nothing in the front door and i bought 6.5 kicker resolutions $129(ultimate sound RECOMMEND) and i got horn tweeters for my highs $15 each (so loud you only need one) and for my subs i have 2 10" kicker comps $170.

now heres what i did i put bass blockers on the tweeters and hooked them up to the amp playing full range with the 6.5 and those things slam and i have the gain at only 1/4 power then the subs i hooked up to the other channel not sure how far the gain is up but i use the eq to fine tune the car.

hope this helps

if it didnt yes i am a moron
