best head unit for a 2002 SE...

I have a 2k2 SE without the bose. I want to upgrade my head unit.
Two questions:

1) When you replace the factory unit, how does that look? I mean how does it effect the overall look of the console? I'm really worried about the new new head unit looking bad.

2) What is the best head unit for $300 or less? I'd like it to have an MP3/CD player as well.

Thanks for all advice.

1) Depends on the dash kit you get. There are options from $20 to $105. Most kits are $20-30 and work well. There are kits for just a single DIN and others for a double DIN (with an optional pocket). And the upper end of the spectrum is to use the Nissan Navigation trim if you are gonna have a double DIN system.

2) Find a brand that you like. Find a model (or 2) that you like. Then ask us to compare them to each other. It's too hard to say "get this model" because it depends on personal taste, musical selection, visual appearance, and features.

On this note, I am looking @ a simple replacement for my Bose HU, I have heard nothing but good things about upgrading the HU and getting much better quality out of the Bose speakers, amp. I am looking at Alpine and Pioneer for now, any comparisons on the V Drive vs, the Mosfet amps that are built in? My price range for the HU is under 300 bucks.

The Nissan navigation trim does not fit. It is too wide for an aftermarket HU. Buyer beware.

I have a 2k2 with bose, my GF has a 2k2 without bose. It is not worth the extra money. The bose is a little clearer & has slightly more crisp highs, but the non-bose seem to have better bass coming from the speakers. The only thing I really like better is the 6cd in-dash changer, but the sound is not that much better.
