Family Walkie Talkies
I have audiovox FRS radios...
Bought 4 for the entire family for christmas... (from brandsbuy.com ... came out to like $130 shipped... not a bad deal)..
As for range, all FRS radios are nearly equal... They operate on 14 channels (somewhere in the 400 mhz range, i think), and reach about 2 miles in open spaces... (I would say maybe 1/2 to 1 mile indoors).. They are perfect for things like the mall, etc..
I picked up the Audiovox ones, because they have a flip down antenna, making them extremely small!!! (think bulky cell-phone size) Easily clip onto a pocket... So far, they have worked great.. (it's really convenient to be able to locate each other camping/mall/park etc.etc.etc..)

Ive got Motorolas
My fmaily has 2 talkabout 250's and two 289's. All work great, and are good for skiing. I have seen the 250's for as low as 50 a piece and the 289's for about 70. Not as cheap as the others, but still pretty good.
