hey guys... i just spent $310 today -- i got a pair of Cerwin Vega 6x9's, a 50x4 Clarion amp for the cab speakers, and a 125x2 Jensen amp for some Jensen subs in a sealed box. the front 6.5 kenwoods i already had. i also got a 4 gauge amp kit. what would you guys recommend i do for power supply? a capacitor, new battery or high output alternator? and how do i go about splitting the power wire? Jensen reccomends that i not mount the amp on the sub enclosure, so would it be okay to make a mounting box for it and the clarion 400.4? can i enclose these to deter theft? thanks !

You'll be fine running the power off of your standard battery. A cap might come in handy. Just get a power splitter with fuses and another one for the ground although you won't need the fuses for the ground. I have Monster Cable products in my car, I reccomend those. I don't really know what would be wrong with mounting the amp to the box though. That seems kinda weird.

Re: just purchased my system

Well, first off, do you have problems with your lights dimming? If not, don't worry about it. I know the 4th generation maxes have around 120 amp alternator, which should be able to handle the load. I have Rockford 600a4 (around 750 watts) and a Kenwood 300 watt amp, and the only thing extra I have is a 1.5 farad cap, on a 4th gen. without many problems.

As far as mounting your amp on the sub encolsure, I've heard it should not be done. The reasoning behind it is that the vibrations from the box will transfer to the PCB in the AMP. This will eventually cause electronics that are soldered on there to slowly start to break off. Granted, I've never _seen_ this happen, but it does make sense how it can happen.

Even though I have monster cable and street wires for my car, to me, wire is wire that is wire. It doesn't matter which brand you go with (as far as power/ground) as long as it is the right guage, it's not going to make the electrons go faster or anything. The RCAs on the otherhand do matter, the better the RCAs, the lesser of a chance of outside noise entering the system.

Well, hope you enjoy your system, it's nice to have a little thump thump .

damn... got in an accident yesterday... icy roads+snowbank+maxima= messed up LF fender and bumper/fogs. anyone interested in buying just one 93 SE fog? i'm going to get some aftermarket replacements after it's repaired. this delays the installation of my system, but allows me to blame the ypipe failure on the accident. if it's cold, drive slow, no matter how good you think the roads are. later.
