One pre amp...

My headunit only has one pre amp. Arrrgghh!!! I need to run Speakers and subs on one amp...I am looking into a 5 channel amp. I was wondering if anyone has a setup like this and could tell me how I would set it up, or if it will sound crappy?? I have a Kicker l7 and four infinty kappa speakers for the interior. I only want about 50 watts to the interior speakers, but as you know that l7 kicks ***. I was also wondering if someone had that, and how much juice they are running to their.

To be quick.

L7 to sound the way it shuold needs at least 600Wrms going to it. You will not get this out of a 5ch amp. The 4 speakers will get powered very nicely from a 5ch amp as they are usually around 50Wrms per channel. My sugestion will be:

- 2ch amp for your front stage speakers
- mono amp for your sub
- run your rear fill from the head unit power.

This way you save $ on not getting a 4ch amp and also this set up leaves you with a lot of options for the future.

If you do go with a 5ch amp it not all that bad idea, but your L7 wont get the workout it deserves and in case you want to add another sub in the future.... you dont have room for expansion.

why not get an equalizer that will take in one preout and output more? My friend has a sweet Alpine sound field processor that takes one input and has three outs(front, rear, sub) and his system sounds awesome! His is different, but similar to this...

Just use a line driver, crossover or something along those lines. You will lose balance/fader type options but will work. Look into the Audio Control 6XS.

As for a 5 channel there arent many that have high power 5th channels, but some will suffice...Kicker 700.5

I have a Sony XEC-1000s 5 Channel Crossover I'm trying to Sell. It has 3 inputs (front rear sub) you can use anywhere from 1 to 3 of these inputs and 5 outputs (front high, front mid, rear high, rear mid, sub).

You could use the Directed 1100d5 5 channel amp.

It puts out 75x4+600x1, plus it is expandable, you can strap a 600d to it later for 1200 total on the sub channel.

Sure, the 1100d5 is $700+ authorized, but it can be had for around $425 from atlantaelectronics.com, at least that's the quote I got from them a couple of months ago.

I guess I'm kinda bummed because I don't know how I should go about powering my setup now... Is it possible to make a quality setup using 2 amps if u have only 1 pre amp out? How would I accomplish this? Anyone have an opnion of how my Infinty Kappa's are going to sound if I just run them offof the radio's built in amp(19 watts RMS). They are designed to handle up to 75 watts RMS, will they only play at roughly 25% of their volume? Will bass be distorted and rattily? I just can't find 2 amps of any quality that I can afford now. I can find those cheap 4 ch amps, but will that be good enough to run my front speakers? Fishing for ideas on what I could do....

You could always the radio's speaker outputs for now, while you save up for an amp. It will work, but yes an amp would be better. As far as having more than one preout, just find a nice eq with dual preouts. Then you can equalize the sound and have more than one preout.
