Question About Tinted Windows and Proximity Sensor

I had my windows tinted 5% all around but I got the Clifford Matrix RS3 alarm remote start and I was told that the proximity sensor wouldnt work with tint this dark so I removed it all before I got the alarm installed. But after getting it installed the guy that put it in told me that the proximity sensor probaly would have still worked with the tint. He said that most of the time the darker the tint the less metal that the tint actually has in it. So now I have to spend another 180 to get my windows tinted again. My question is what it the darkest that I should get my windows so that my proximity sensor will still works?

Re: Question About Tinted Windows and Proximity Sensor

I had the RS2 on my 91SE, but with no tints. But from what I recall the prox sensor dosen't use the windows for detection. I believe it uses a radar type of device (I could be wrong). But I would check with state laws before getting your windows tinted, or you would have wasted another $180 or the will make you take them off. I've seen them X windows with a razor so people would have to get them taken off. But then again, I live in DC, so I've seen alot of crap.

Yes, I was able to find out the answer for you today. I called my ex co-worker from when I use to work at Best Buy and he said the tint does make a HUGE difference in your prox sensor. he said he recommends nothing darker than 35%

I think Best Buy employees are some of the most informed people in the technology world. But that depends on who you ask.

I dont have that alarm or 20% tint, but my DEI proximity sensor worked fine with 35% front and 20% back on my truk.
