Just add sub or need more?
I'm thinking of adding a sub to my 2k3 Maxima with stock non-Bose stereo. I was thinking of getting an Infinity Basslink. All I really want is just some extra crispness to the music. Is this all I need or do I need to get a component speaker setup and a separate amplifier also?
I was thinking of getting a Infinity Kappa component system for just the front speakers with a two way amp to drive them along with the Basslink. This all started when my wife got a new car with factory 7 speaker system and I felt the subwoofer added a lot of depth. I also hate the way the speaker grilles vibrate when low end music comes on.
Is it OK to just replace front speakers and not the back and use just a two way amp? If it is, what amp is good for this power range?

Basslink has no low end. You will go down to 40Hz and then it will drop drastically. Some people call that bass but I don't. You are better off getting a sub amp and putting together a sealed box with 12" sub. If you don't want to deal with the wires and mess, I guess Basslink is OK--certainly better than nothing.
My suggestion is to try the Infinity Kappa 6.1 Perfect (~$225) component system without an amp. Above moderate levels, the hu will clip and you risk damage, but I find that music plays loud enough for my taste. Contrary to what others say, I think most HU's put out "clean" watts up to their rated specs. Most Infinity component sets are 90dB sensitivity which is fairly efficient.
Since rears are for fill, I only have fairly cheap Blaupunkt coaxials in there. I don't believe in spending $$$ on rears.

Hey, thanks for the advice. Is there enough amp power in the stock non-Bose HU to power the Infinity Perfect speakers?
What you're saying about the bass makes sense but, I kinda need the trunk space and I'm such a newbie that I've never had anything but stock stereo components in any of my cars. I'm not sure I'd be able to tell if I'm missing low end frequencies.

Sounds like Basslink may be for you. Even the strong 40Hz of the Basslink is satisfying. It really doesn't produce chest cage vibrating bass though. Just make sure your power wiring is beefy so that if you want to upgrade at some future time (I did), the wiring is still ample. Try to get a 300W+ amp wiring kit or one with at least an 8ga power wire.
I also have a question about adding an amplified Sub. I have a 10 inch Amplified Bazooka Tube. Does anyone know the BEST way to hook it up to the stock Non-Bose system. Do I unhook the rear speakers and use the speaker wire or do I splice on to the rear wires and keep the rear speakers plugged in? Or is there a better way. I would rather not loose the rear speakers.

Alittle OT, but how do those amplified 10 inch Bazooka tubes sound??
