Sub Box Weighs Down Back?!

I am planning on getting two 12 inch subs put into a sub box and installed in the back trunk of my Maxima. What scares me is that one of my friends says that a huge sub box will weigh down back of car therefore causing the car to use more gas or something that affects gas mileage. Anyone know anything about this or any problems with big sub boxes?

Subs are heavy (at least good ones are), so yes, your car will be weighed down. I noticed a loss in acceleration after installing 2 12" subs. Its really not that big of a deal though. Improved sounds is well worth the minimal loss in acceleration and heavy back end.

Its not like i take it to the track for time trials. Its autotragic so I won't even bother with mods. I'd rather get my audio digs on.

than it's worth it... I had 2 competition Audiobahn flame series in the back and those weight me down pretty well but since I'm going for performance now.. those are gone

I've got a 3/4" MDF box that is about 12" deep, 14" height, 36" width. Fills up the entire front of my trunk. Have two Kenwood 10s firing through the ski/trunk access hole. Its a pretty hefty box, and I'm still getting well over 400 miles to the tank. Oh, and I also have frankencar!

i got a 3/4" mdf box too. Only like 10" deep and 12" high, 30" wide, but it does weigh 50 lbs or so w/ 2 10's (Alpine type R). Didn't notice a loss of acceleration, but that may have been due to the fact that I was enjoying the music too much! Well worth it. Still get about 425 miles per tank.

Yeah i had 2 rockford punch HE 12"s in back and since my car is lowered, you would see the sag, it was more pronouced. So im getting rid of that and going with 2 component systems (front and rear) and (1) 10". Im not much for loud boom boom anyways, i like a cleaner sounding non-trunk rattling thump better...

the more weight on your car, the more you car has to work to maintain a certain speed.. hence the loss in gas milage

figure it this way your system only ways about 100-150 pounds depending on the size and your dynamat use, thats baseically just like having an extra person in the car...and really does an extra person really change your gas milage that much

My 2 solo baric 12's are heavy as hell and i did notice a slight lose of accel. but im thinkin of takin one of um out and gettin a smaller box. If you dont care about speed than its definatly worth it, just get dynamat cause otherwise youll be sad if you hear your system outside the car.

My butt sags due to excessive weight in the trunk. (hehe)

I also have one of the biggest sub boxes on the org, juss check my homepage and see for yourself. Well worth it though, I would never trade my system for anything. Now I just need to get some coilovers to even out the height (JICs baby!).
