Need advice on Bose upgarde

I have a 2002 SE and I have the Bose unit. I would like to uprade the stereo, but would like to keep the head unit in place. What do you guys recommend to get the best sound out of this crappy system? What kind of speakers should I get? or do i need to get a apmplifier? I am clueless when it comes to stereos.

Thanks.

you can add a sub and amp.

You can replace everything, fronts, rears, amps, subs, you name it...You just need to get a couple of good line-level converters and start swapping. Best bet is to do it all at once because an aftermarket amp will not run your Bose speakers without problems, and if you swap just the speakers, they will not work right with the Bose amps. Look forward to spending at lest $1000 to do it right, $2000 to really have something, and $5000 for bragging rights.

I've added the equipment per my sig to the stock Bose headunit, and also have not changed the door speakers. I plan to change both of these later, but for now, the upgrades sound much, much better than the original tweeters and sub.

I'm going to be purchasing a 2K Max and I to would like to upgrade the Bose system without replacing the headunit. Someone was talking about a good line-level converter...how can u hook that up to the Bose headunit and can u direct me to some more info on this converter?
