bass blockers question
bass blockers question
I know that bass blockers are capacitors. What I want to know is, can I go to best buy, get all the specs off their bass blocker, then go to radio shack, and buy the same capacitors for less. Would that be ok?

The formula is fairly simple but I can't remember the exact numbers. One is the nominal resistance of the speaker, another the frequency you want and then I believe a constant. Every cap has it's own sound quality. Some good, many not good. This will act as a first order high pass crossover, 6 dB per octave. Another good source for caps is madisound. Also a low volt cap will have lower power handling than a higher voltage cap.
Use this
Enter 4ohm, 4ohm, the frequency you want (ie 100), and leave it at 1st order butterworth. Then it will give you a little graphic and tell you what value to use for both the cap and inductor, but you just want the cap, and put it on your woofer.
