Question on amps/subs

Hey, I've got a system I'm assembling, and have a couple of questions.

I have a p750mp HU, a pair of Infinity 63.5is, and a pair of CDT cl-6xs.

My question is this...will those speakers be just fine running off the HU, or will the sound quality drastically improve if I run them off of an amp, say a Lightning Audio b2.400.4? I'm definitely looking for SQ over SPL.

Also...what of the Infinity Basslink? Is it worth the money, and in the trunk of a 1998 Maxima...is it even noticable?

First check the RMS output of your head unit probably 22Watts x 4. Then check the speaker ratings usually it saids 40 to 120 Watts RMS. Usually 22Watts being applied to a 40Watt (Lower Value) will sound ok, but you are not getting the speakers full potential, it probably will sound as if you had your stock speakers.

Obviously you care about SQ, so I would spend the extra money and get an amp that will sufficiently play the speakers to their intended potential. Also when you get an external amp you can include a crossover or EQ to help with SQ.

An Infinity Basslink is a powered subwoofer in an enclosure. I personally have not heard them, but they do get good reviews from other's on the org. They are the same concept of the SAS Bazooka powered tube, they look totally different however. You will need to run power wires and RCA to the BASSLINK.

An amp will be important for SQ. If you want to play your stereo at any kind of volume, the HU amp will become distorted. Even if you don't wish to blast your music, I recommend it. But, you can always add it later, so maybe you should just try it without first.

The Basslink has gotten lots of good comments on the ORG. I think it's great for a compact solution. But if you are not so concerned about the size, you can get a better/louder sub box and amp for the same money. Basslink is for simplicity and compactness.

The amp will make a dramatic sound difference, depending on the money you spend on it. But overall definatelyt better than running direct from the radio.

As far as the BASSLINK, there are tons of other options, you just have to do what suits your needs/pockets.

Thanks very much for all the help so far. I do have one more question then...

As far as amps go, I'm even more ignorant.

I'm looking at two right now...but can't figure out how one would benefit me more than the other.

One is the b2.400.4, like I said...Lightning Audio Bolt 4-channel amp. 75x4 at 4ohms, etc.

The other is the Strike amplifier, the s2.800.4, which puts out 60x4 at 4, etc.

The latter is the higher model of the two by the same company. It also costs a bit more. What makes it better, and how will I be able to tell that as the end user?

Also...are there better amps out there for this price range? (200-300 bucks)?

Depending on the actual price difference between the two I would go with the Strike if I had only those two choices.

There are definately better amps out there in the $300 range!
I would either do the Eclipse PA5422
You can also look at the JL Audio 300/4
My opinion would be to get the Eclipse of the JL if those two were my choices, but they are definately better than Lightning Audio.

definately go with the amp for the interiors, and use the high pass filter on it, get the basslink and play with it till the crossover meshes in perfectly with the speakers, then u'll have a very very nice sq system, i LOVE my basslink it provides the perfect amount of bass, doesnt take up too much space, doesnt even make my trunk rattle, and it POUNDS for such a lil system and don installed mine for me and its not hard at all! oh don, i'm gettin that yellow paint for the fogs, ya still wanna work on those things with me

One quick question.

If my speakers have a RMS of 75 watts...will powering them with an amp that puts out 80 wattsx4 at 4 ohms hurt them?

like don said!

Distortion and clipping is the major factor to speakers being damaged.
