Amp cable through fire wall question
Amp cable through fire wall question
I have a 2K2 non-bose stereo and am adding new speakers and an amp to the factory system. I searched the .org looking the best way to run amp power cable from the engine compartment to the cabin. I saw a post saying route the cable in a 1.5" hole on the drivers side strut tower which I found. It then says to remove the wheel well liner to acces a pre-existing gromet where the hood release latch is located. I can find this inside the cabin but don't know how to remove plastic wheel well liner to run the cable through. It seems to be held in with a plastic interior trim screw thing. I gently tried to pull them out but afraid of breaking it since they are plastic. Does anyone know how to get the inside wheel well liner off to get to the gromet. All post I found just say to take it off but don't say how it comes off.
Thanks for any help you guys can provide,
Marc

I would really prefer not to drill any holes in the car, there is a way with the 2K2, I am just worried about damaging the wheel liner when I try to take it off.
Thanks
Thanks

You are right, those plastic screws are flimsy, and you might break one. I have one on the right side that I broke from taking it off so many times to do my oil filter. But just be careful, and you'll get them out just fine. Use a small flathead for the ones that you pry out, and as for the screw-like ones, just unscrew as far as it will go and then pry it out. Those things are certainly not made for repetative removal, but you will be fine doing it once for the power wire.
If anyone has any ideas on something we could use to replace those cheasy plastic screw-wedge things, I am all ears.

Thanks, I going to try again today. They just looked like something that would break if i pulled to hard and i thought that there must have been some kind of trick to it.

Finally got to do it
I planned on running my amp power cable Saturday but it rained like crazy. I finally had time to do it this afternoon after work. Man was it easy. Once I got the wheel liner most of the way off I just slid back the rubber boot on my hood release cable inside the cabin and poked a clothes hanger through it. I went to the wheel well and tapped my power cable to the hanger with electrical tape and was through the fire-wall in no time at all. I then ran the cable along the drivers side to the trunk. The entire project took about 15-20 minutes.
Thanks to all that replied to my PM's and post with advice on how to get the wheel liner off. This saved me the trouble of having to drill a hole in my car. I can't wait for my speakers to get here and finish of the system.
