cubic box vs. others

for the past couple of months i've been thinking about redoing my audio setup, b/c its a mess right now (although it does play ). I wanna go with a 12" Kicker L5 and a custom box. so here's my question:
is there any advantage in the way it's going to sound if I'll make the box cubic (all sides of it equal).

What I have in my mind right now is making the depth of the box a little smaller, but the front wider. is it going to affect the way it bumps in any way?

I'm looking at 2 ft^3 of volume, although i don't need any numbers, just wanted to let you know what im trying to get.

Also, there are two possible locations to mount the box. either in the place of the spare tire (i'll have to raise the floor level of the trunk a little bit) facing up or the side of the trunk closer to the seats, facing the taillights (sorry, have no idea how to explain it any better). So what do you think what sound better? Any other idead, comments, criticism? Eveything is appreciated.

A box is a box. The only thing that will matter is if the box is ported or sealed. The shape makes no diff.

As for mounting...... I have my amp rack mounted to the back seat and then the box mounted to the amp rack. Simple and safe.

For a small sub enclosure a box is a box. For larger woofer enclosures and midrange enclosures wall length, width, depth ratio's are important. But there should be no walls long enough to create a standing wave at the frequencies you wil be playing. Make sure your sub amp is properly vented.
