Will 6.5" speaks fit 92 Max?

Will 6.5" speakers fit the doors of a 92 Maxima w/o mods? I know they're supposed to take 6.75"ers, but my frat bro works at Best Buy and can get stuff at 5% over cost, and they don't carry 6.75" speakers...
Thanks!

I had a 92 SE and it came with the 4" enclosure in the doors so I had to modify it to make a 6.5 fit. the GLE may be different but you may still have to modify it so that the bigger magnet on the aftermarket doen't interfere with the window.

Do you mean the stock opening on your SE was 4"? Or did it just come with 4" speakers in the stock holes? Did you have the BOSE system stock? I looked on Crutchfield to get the 6.75" measurement for the 92 Max w/BOSE...

Yeah, mine came with that pain in the butt bose. In the doors it had a 4" speaker in a larger plastic enclosure to give it better bass. The opening was as big as the enclosure so I cut a piece of 1/2 in. mdf to make the hole smaller and keep the magnet of the speaker from interfering with the window. The factory door panel still fit fine. I said 4 but the speaker itself was really more like 3".

I'm going to mod the bose thing to fit a 5 1/4 speaker. I have done this to the bose before. Takes a lot of cutting.

DJ what is that thing for anyway? I mean, why not just install a 5.25 or 6.5 in the first place?

Alright, lemme see if I can get this straight here...
Despite that Crutchfield says replacements are 6.75", the actual size of the door speakers is ~ 3".
And the speakers have some kind of extra cone/enclosure/stuff around them to give them more bass.
And this extra stuff is permanently mounted to the door, not to the speaker.
Therefore in order to get a 6.75" (or similarly large) speaker in the door, you need to remove a bunch of crap...
Am I right about those 4 things?

How deep can the speaker be before it interferes with the window?

Its a large plastic enclosure that holds 3 or 4" speakers. I suggest taking them out and throwing them away. Then buy a set of baffles from james. He sells 6.5" ones that fit in the 3rd gen cars, they are made out of mdf. I got my set from him for 30 shipped, so that is an exellent deal.

Bose is a bunch of mentally void people that use like 2 sizes of speakers. If its not a 6x9, its ~4. I assume they have widened their sizes these days with more than 4 speaker setups....
