Think i fried my speakers

Well my new speakers arrived to replace the old bose, and as I was replacing the rear speakers, I think I fried the old bose front speakers. I was cutting of the connector to the rear speakers, and I had the ****ing car on and the radio playing at the time... yeah I know im an idiot. Anyway, I cut all four wires at once, and i got a nice spark, and no noise coming from the speakers. But I got the rear speakers in and they work fine, so I'm assuming that when I put the new front speakers in, everything will be fine. Is it possible that I screwed up the HU at all or something besides the speakers?

It's more likely that you blew a fuse in the headunit or burnt the output.

The good news is chancs are your speakers are fine...Bad news is you might have damaged the amplifier in the Bose deck....

Easy way to check. Get a 9V battery (small one) and attach the + to the positive terminal on the speaker and tap the - speaker wire on the - battery terminal. The speaker should jump forward and make a slight pop noise. If it does, the speaker is more than likely fine and the amp is fried or a connection is bad.

Well if I damaged the HU, how hard would that be to repair. I don't understand how the HU could be damaged if the rear speakers work fine. Is there a separate fuse or something for the front and rear outputs? By the way its an aftermarket HU (blaupunkt)

Check the speaker wireing to all the speakers. If you still don't have front speakers after that check the headunit output at the back of the headunit. That's right, get a 4 ohm speaker and plug it up to each speaker output to see if they are working properly. You can short any number of speaker level or RCA outputs individually. How hard it is to fix depends on the way it's put together. But unless you know what you are looking for it is normally cheaper to replace with a new headunit.
