Different Guages work?

My power distro block only has 4 8 guage outputs. The amp i want needs 4 guage power cable. What will happen if i use 8 guage? Sorry if this is a very very very very stupid question. Thanks

i don't see any problems as long as the 8 gauge going into your amp ISN'T LONG. so you might have a 1/0 gauge going into your distro block in your trunk, from there 8 gauges to your amps.

I have a 4 gauge going into my distro block. The 8 gauge will probably be 3ft max. You think it will work?

thats dumb, it will only get the amount of power from the weakest (or smallest) part. Doing it that way will be just like wiring the whole thing with an 8 Gauge wire, which wont supply enough power.

no...

power decreases as the line get longer. if he had an 8 gauge from the battery to the trunk then yes that'll be bad. but he's running a big wire to the disto block. then from there smaller gauge to his amps. if the wire to his amps are relatively short, i don't think it'll be a problem, unless his amps are putting out big power.

the amp i want to get is the RF 500bd. I'm gonna wire it in 2 ohms to 2 subs so it should be putting out 500 watts. If the 8 guage is less than 3 feet, do you think that it will be a problem?
