good looking dash kits?...

i'm getting a new cd player for my dad's 01 maxima (its a gxe), but i've seen a couple pics of the dash kits for the max, and i have to say, they dont really look that great. i dont know if its just me, or if those are old kits i've seen, but are there any nice kits for the maxima?
also, does the maxima require an antenna adapter? i'm gonna the stuff from a local shop, so i just want to go in, tell them what i need, and get out, i can do the install myself.

if anyone has a nice pic of there aftermarket kit, i'd appreciate it.

i think this one is ok. But you gotta be sure that you stereo console is separate from the vents (that is the console is not one piece)

that kit does look good, i think the one i saw was more "blocky" looking, it was curved like that one, and i also remember seeing one where the cd player was installed in the bottom half of the kit, which i thought was odd.

i dont understand what you mean carabuser, about the console being one piece. do you meant that i have to remove the a/c vents to remove the stock radio?

pretty much yes. At least I have to do that. There are some models that come with a two piece part, some with one piece. In my case, I have to remove the vents in order to get access to the stereo. I'll post some pix if I can find a way to host them.

cool, if you can get pics up, i'd appreciate it, but i think i have a good idea on what to do, i've done audio installs in my civic, so i have a good grip on things.
sounddomain ro cardomain, best place to basically get a free website, thats what i use for all my pics.

this is what I mean by two piece, you can see a little gap there between the vent console and stereo. In my case it's something like this:

(without tv playing **** )

What does yours look like? Got a pic?
If it's like the second one, then use crutchfield adaptor.

cool, i like the second one, looks good (and so does the kit )
do the vents just pop out if i pull on them hard enough, thats what it seems like, but i thought i'd ask before i try and break something, like a clip.
here is my sd page: http://www.sounddomain.com/id/slick316
do not adjust your monitors folks, that is a civic on the page, thats what i drive, my dad is the maximaniac to my list of car audio, also add audiocontrols epic 160, i gotta install that in the dash, and then do a little fiberglass/bondo work to it. i think i'm good with equipment, so i'm gonna focus more on the looks of the install.

nah, man, I woudln't recommend the second one. Too many gaps.

Vents should come out if you pull a little. Don't pull TOO hard tho, you may break it

Not too bad, except it's black, and the rest of the dash is tan.

are there dashkits that have 2 slots as opposed to one for the CD player and that smaller pocket as the one in crutchfield? I am thinking of getting a screen later on but i need a pocket for it above or below my CD player..

i thought most people on .org that are not the GXE trim ie SE/GLE ususally like to get the GXE dash to install aftermarket radios since it matches the center console better than aftermarket dashes. don't you have a GXE dash?

yes, you need a diversity antenna adapter.

i have the comfort and convenience package, so i got the cd and tape player, i think you mean the really base model that has just a tape player, and an empty slot beneath the tape deck.
its okay though, i got the stuff, just waiting for the shop to get the deck in stock, and i'll install it this week.

I used the Scosche kit for my car and it matches the charcoal color dash. It can be used to install 2 full din-sized units but the installation is a little more complicated; you have to drill custom holes in the brackets that hold the units. Another benefit of the scosche kit is that only the face of the unit protrudes as opposed to the entire frame around the unit. This makes for a cleaner, factory looking install.

True dat. I had originally bought the dash kit from Crutchfield and it sucked. The mounting was good, except it didn't offer that factory look. I then bought the Scosche kit from Cardomain.com and what a difference! Much better looking and gives more of that factory look. Also, it gives you the option of adding a double-din (which I needed) without that stupid pocket like Crutchfeild has. Yeah, the Scosche kit has to be modified for mounting purposes, but it was well worth it.
