Help!!! - wiring PAC SWI

Hello,

I am trying to wire a PAC SWI and I am having problems identifying one of the wires. Appendix E calls for a 'red' wire to be connected to a 47 ohm resistor. I am using this diagram for wiring http://maxima.theowensfamily.com/audio.html and there are (3) red wires in a Base System (non-bose) maxima 2003. Can someone tell me what 'red' wire works.

Here are the instructions for the PAC-SWIx

http://www.go2pac.com/instructions/swixinstr%20new.pdf

Thanks,

Mike

It really does not say what it is used for.

There is a red wire in the SWI that I am supposed to connect to the battery. All the instructions say is to yellow/blue wire on the Maxima to 150 ohm resistor, the 'red' wire on the maxima to a 47 ohm, then connect the free ends of the resistors to the SWI white wire and ground the brown/white wire in the maxima.

There is something here about the red wire and the 47 ohm resistor :

http://www.pac-audio.com/faqs/swix.htm

Go to question 6, and click for the link in the answer : the red wire in question comes from the steering wheel controls. This diagram shows the functions done by the blue/yellow and red wires.

I noticed something in the aforementioned Appendix E : if you look at Maxima 2002, they mention 3 wires, and Note 8 (that's the case were talking here, non-Bose unit). If you look at Maxima 2001, they mention 5 wires, and Note 9 : this info apply for those of you who have the Bose system, and this is confirmed by the Service Manual wiring diagrams (one wire for each function : VOL UP, VOL DN, SCAN UP. SCAN DN, and MODE). I plan to do this mod sometime.

Denis,

I found the plug with the 3 wires. You are correct it is plug for the steering wheel control and it have only one 'red' wire.

I will finish the install tomorrow. It seems easy enough. I just hope that I can find a good spot to place and aim the IR on the SWI. The radio is mounted quite high in the dash and I usually have to raise my hand for the remote control to work.

Thanks for your help on the antena. It worked like a charm.

I was going to send the Pac off to a intaller, but then i was quoted a ludacris price. since you installed the swi-x. do you have a list of the colors wires and where you hooked them up too. the instructions are pretty straigh forward, but the simpler i can keep it the better. the groud, memory and ign all attach to those wires in the radio harness if i am correct?

The red wire is just switched +12v. Tap into the red wire in the main stereo harness. There is only one all red wire, the other reds have stripes and are for one of the speakers.

I put my LED in the steering column, Pics

I installed mine right next to the stereo facing the rear of the car. Worked great when I had my Eclipse HU...now that I have my Sony in it only works when I put my right hand on the steering wheel or near the emitter. I have to relocate it but I've been too lazy.

I had some difficulty installing mine so I called the number on the instructions. The guy on the other end of the phone was kind of a jerk, but I was persistent and he eventually hepled me enough to finish the job.
