I have an 8500. The only time it ever falses is if I drive really close past some power doors. Other than that, it's quiet, unless it's a real alert. Not to mention the distance it picks up cops at - it's incredible. I swear by it.

I will pick up my passport this weekend. It is delivered to my parents house. I can;t wait to use it. I will use it to go from NY to Boston this month and see how it performs. I travel alot on the palasades pwky in NJ a lot, and I see cops there time to time.

The downside of having a good radar detector is that it is very sensitive which produces false alarms. Thankfully, both the Passport and V1 have modes designed to stop false alarms. They also allow certain bands be turned off (especially X) to reduce false alarms. No matter what you buy you will have to learn how to interpret the alarms. I HIGHLY recommend you upgrading to either a Passport or V1 - you will not regret it. I have owned both and say the V1 is better - no contest.
