Resonant Frequency for SPL burps

I've got a '00 max SE and am thinking about taking it to a sound off competition in a week or so. I'm running three 12's with 333.3 watts each in a sealed box and I need to know what frequency yeilds the highest SPL's in the maxima. I will play a sine wave at that frequency when my SPL measurement is taken.

I had a grand am in which 47hz seemed to work the best. Since it's a sealed box, the enclosure shouldn't be much of a factor in which frequency is played, but the resonance of the vehicle could make a big difference. Thanks!

Use a warble tone. That way you get all the frequencies and none play long enough to get cancellation.

i would personally go with a ported enclosure. they tend to be louder than sealed. i think each car's resonant frequency is different so there really isn't a set frequency. i guess you can play a low frequency sweep and see which frequency is the loudest.

Another problem with a single frequency is that wavelength changes with temperature. Get the boom Raider CD, http://carsound.com/

just make or download some tones, and play them, decide which is loudest

maybe pick up the Rat Shack chaepo digital SPL meter to measure which is louder at one volume, then go with that

good luck at the competition!

btw, I got 146.4 with 3 12's sealed with 266.6 " " w rms to each in my ElDorado, its all in the install

Can't port the box since it's already been built, installed, and it's hard enough to fit 3 12's in the trunk as it is. Plus it's more of a sound quality install but I'm curious about my SPL score.

Problem with playing sine waves is that I always seem to get my highest score the very first second I burp. Even if a sine wave did "find" a good resonant frequency my electrical system would already be depleted from playing at full blast for 5 or 6 seconds beforehand. Would be real nice to be able to play *the note* immediatly.

I didn't see this question in the FAQ.....trust me I looked and also browsed through 5 pages of the forum. My apologies if I missed it somewhere. Search wouldn't work for me of course. I'll look into the warble tone and the boom raider CD, thanks!
