What Size Amp Do I Need?
I need a new amp but not sure on what amp to get. My sub is 200W RMS and 400W peak 4 ohm. Right now I am only running one 12 but may plan on running 2 in the future so I want to get an amp that will capable of pushing both if need be.
But my question is should I look for an amp that has a close RMS to my sub or close to the peak power. Like, I am looking to get a Punch P3002 which has 75 W X 2 @ 4 Ohms RMS,150 W X 2 @ 2 Ohms RMS,300 W X 1 @ 4 Ohms Bridged RMS. Is this good for my sub esp being bridged. I will be running the one sub bridged, so will I be putting 300W to that one sub? Is that sufficient enough? Thanks for the help!! |
find something that will do the 200 rms at 4 ohms but is also 2 ohm stable, and will do around 400 rms at 2 ohms.

or http://jbl.com/car/products/product_...er=GTI&cat=AMP But in all seriousness get something that is adequate to push the sub in the enclosure you plan to use. Power handling is highly dependent on the enclosure. Going from 4 ohms to dual 4 ohms will be somewhat difficult unless you buy an oversized monoblock. Something rated at 300 - 500 RMS into 2 ohms. There is a wide range there because of the variability in enclosures and every amp is rated to differing standards. |
