Need help with wiring, weird problem..

What's up guys, im having a major issue with this maxima? I installed an Alpine cva-1003 and a separate dvd player, the dvd player sends the signal into the alpine unit which then runs to an amp. So the internal amps aren't used at all, I have the signal running to a 4 channel amp. Problem im having is that it sounds like garbage. I have played with all the settings and what not and its still crap. So I took off both units and started playing around with the ground, they're both grounded to the bracket which I thought was a solid ground, when I play with the ground and get it at that certain position, it'll sound amazing, but the slightest move and it'll go back to sounding like crap. I tried different grounding spots but the something happens, if I play with the ground wire and get them to a certain spot, it'll sound great but as soon as I go to screw the ground wire in, it'll move and start sounding like crap. I'm clueless as to what it can be and was hoping some of you guys have some insight. thanks a lot!
