In most states everything but nav is illigal while the vehicle is moving, if it is in sight of the driver. Back seat operation is legal. I beleive the broader federal traffic law that has been around for decades reads to the effect - "failure to give full time and attention." Same law is used by federal police for distracted cell phone users.

One of the car a/v companies has a list of the states and what is and is not legal. It may be on the CEA page.

pulled over, change discs and VOILA! Faux - navigation screen!!!

It's just illegal to watch tv/movies and plays games. If it's just a cd then it's probably fine. I have an alpine indash and it's always up showing me my radio station and cd track. No problem with the police yet.

ya sometimes i put on a mp3 cd and it shows the track listing and stuff. The tv doesnt distract me at all even when a movie is on, its like listening to music. Im asking if a cop would realy pull me over jsut for having the tv, it can barly be seen.

when i installed mine, i put a switch on the ground wire. a flick of the switch, and it interrupts the ground, and the screen goes off. if i ever get rolled on, i just hit the switch.

"what screen officer? oh, that thing? that doesn't even work. look, see? there's no picture!"

Actually, this just happen to me about 3 weeks ago... i was crusing on the SSP and while in the middle lane with all 3 monitors on playing music videos i can see from the corner of my eye that some one is riding with me along side...this happen for like a 1-3 minutes....then i look to my left there is a state trooper just looking at my car!! I almost ****ted on my pants just thinking about the ticket....i slowly close the one in my dash and as soon as i did the trooper just took off like 90MPH....i think if you show some respect and fix your illegal things while you can they wont mess with you...like neons i have them but i turn them off every time i see one by my side and they see them too....

BTW the state trooper was a young officer (if he was old i would have a nice ticket to cry about)

you're not allowed to have "moving pictures" aka movies, ps2/xbox, or music videos in the view of the driver.

If its part of your deck ie am/fm radio cd/mp3 with a screen saver type thing, then you are allowed to have that.

this is what i was told by Metro, OPP and Peel Region police in the greater toronto area

good question...I've only seen HUs that have the visualizations on the deck itself though...for visuals, I've been buying music DVDs...and I've got something
else up my sleeve...
