Front speakers in bose 3rd gen.

I'm replacing the front speakers in the max. It is is an '89 and has the bose setup. I know I can replace the rear 6 x 9s with other 6 x 9s, but what is the largest speaker that can fit up front if a custom bracket is built. Can a 6 3/4 fit in that space in a custom bracket with out being hit by the window when it rolls down? What have people used? And no, I won't try to use the factory amps or anything. Thanks.

Yeah you can fit 6.5s up there. James92se makes some very good speaker pods to house the 6.5s. PM him for more info.

So do you guys just use a piece of wood cut to a certain shape like Craig Brace used for his 4 x 6s or some kind of custom thing from James92SE?

i cut out a peice of mdf the same size as the stock plastic peice, then i built up from there to mimic the stock mounting angle and depth.
