Picking a ~$200 headunit with MP3 playback.. are Panasonics any good?

.. I'm selling my Eclipse headunit because i'm afraid it may get jacked since it doesn't have a removable faceplate (silly reason, i know.. but that's another issue)..

anyways,

I'm looking at ~$200 headunits with MP3 playback.

Alpine may have something but it's probably about $250.. Pioneer has the 4600 but i'm afraid of buttons wearing out like i had happen on my old Pioneer headunits..

Panasonic has one, very cheap, like 130 bucks, how do they compare?

so its more between Pioneer and Panasonic. I want a removable face, reliable, quality, and a **** for volume, and quality "plastic" (not rubber) buttons... so they don't wear through like some Pioneers in the past

Steve, get the Pioneer. At least they have a pretty good sterring wheel remote that you can use so that you don't touch the buttons.

i think pioneer took care of the buttons thing. i have a 9200 and my track forward, and track backward buttons are worn to ****, i only use the remote now. i dont know what tha fawk pioneer was thinking with those buttons. that lets me believe they dont thuroughly(sp?) check their units before release because if they did they would have realized after about 3 months the buttons start to wear and they coulda made some last minute changes. i say go for the pioneer, they have alot of features, have good SQ, and is overall a very good quality unit

exactly

i had the same deck in the past. Buttons wore down and fell right out
friends of mine had 7200s and they had the same thing happen

max5spd,
really? these come with the headunits? that would be nice..

slickrick,
where do i shop for the HU? I don't want to get any crappy stuff, remanufactured or whatever else... i heard ebay has a lot of these..

thanks

p.s.
anyone here have seen those newer pioneers in person, to confirm the buttons are infact plastic and not rubber?

The higher end headunits come with the steering wheel remotes. If not, you can pick it up separately and it'll still work. Pretty universal among Pioneer headunits, but check first. If you go to Crutchfield's site, it either comes with it or it's listed as an option.

usually the higher the # the better. the 6 in the 6600 and 7600 =2004 model. so the 7600 is the better of the two. im not sure if the 6600 plays mp3's.

but i was asking for the difference between the Pioneer HUs and the Pioneer Premier ones...
typically premier is more expensive.. but its for a reason i guess

A few extra features. Two year warranty asopposed to one year if bought from an authorized retailer for Premier products.

Don, you don't happen to deal with Pioneer, do you? Or Alpine?
