question about bass

I just installed 2 type r in a sealed box. The bass sounds very muddy. This happened in my old setup too. Usually this only happens when i am listening to FM radio (which might explain why?). I also notice that it's usually songs with drums/guitars like David Matthews or other songs like that. Is it just suppose to be like that?

i will try a cd tomorrow. even the radio commericials have too much bass that goes through the subwoofer which makes it sound bad. the crossover on the amp is set to the lowest.

set the crossover at 80 Hz, and play some CDs. FM signals aren't the best

Is the box sealed? Does it have any leaks?

Press down on the sub, it should be hard to push it down and when you let go it should pop back up real quick. If it goes down easily (air leaving the box) and slowly comes back up (air coming back in)

If its doing this, remove you sub(s) and run a bead of caulking around all the edges to seal it off. Let it dry and re-install the subs and see if it sounds any better (it should)

Do you have a remote bass control with that. I find that I like different levels of bass with different types of music. If i leave my bass at the same level that I like it at for rap and try listening to something more mellow like Dave Mathews it will sound terrible. The bass totally drowns out the rest of the material and the mids can't keep up.

If that doesn't work you might try reducing the enclosure volume to increase the Q and make the box less boomy and more punchy.

I think that's a good explanation right there. It's more booomy then punchy. For Rap music it's fine but for other kind of music, it sounds horrible.

hitman, i'll try that later. Thanks
