can I put a power switch on the remote wire?

ok, I recently installed my sub system on my car. I love the sound and every thing, but I was having a idea that if I ever have to take people on my car (family trip) I will be some what embarrased by the 2 12' sub beating like **** in the back of my car.

my idea was to install a little ON/OFF switch on the power wire right by my side, so I could turn the subs on and off whenever I want.

I tought about putting on the power wire but I have a 4gauge cable and it is imposible to to put a siwtch on that cable.

my second Idea was. put a switch on my remore wire, since the sub won't work unless all cables are connected (including the remote wire).

the problem is, the switches have built in fuses (of course, but I didn't know that) and I was wondering what amp fuse switch do I use, and 5,10,15,25,35,50...

thaks for any help.

If you have an aftermarket HU, you should be able to turn the sub volume to zero.

sometimes the bass gets annoying like in the morning, and when i am dead tired at night ot just do nto want to hear it. if ya got anymore questions pm me.

My friend has a switch set up just how you describe and it works great. The wire is only 18 gauge, most of the time, so I'm sure the fuse doesn't have to be that big.

Put a 10K log scale pot on the RCA in to the amp. Or if you aren't comfortable soldering buy the PAC sub volume control adapter.

I dont know what type of amp you have, but you could put an external bass control **** on it which will allow you to turn it down whenever you want.

huh? if you have a decent h/u you can turn the sub off or even lower the voltage the amp is receiving which in turns lowers the bass output.

Ypu can install a switch onto the remote wire. I had this done on my old car. A 12v 5A switch chould work fine since the remote wire just turns on and does not power the amps, you do not need to fuse it.

Good Luck

why dont you just turn the subs down (not to zero but down to a normal level)?

you wouldnt even be able to tell that you have subs in there if you do this

You can save yourself a lot of time if you have an aftermarket headunit. Like slickrick mentioned, you can just turn it off.
