Speaker Depth
Speaker Depth
In the market for some new 6.5s and was wondering what the maximum top mount speaker depth was for 2002 maxima with no Bose? Right now I'm probably going to get some Focals or CDTs but I need to know if they will clear the doors. Thanks.

Not sure of the stock spacer situation in the non-bose, but my '00 bose system had 1" plastic spacers. The CDT CL-61's fit in the front after cutting out the baflfe part of the stock spacer. Not sure how much space I have, but rolling the window all the way down hits the speaker wire attached to the speaker terminals (was tired/lazy and used crimp connectors instead of soldering, i'll solder later when i deaden, i guess).
According to crutchfield, the depth is 2.5" inches, which makes sense, as the CDT CL-61's were 2 13/16, so 5/16 longer. So I'm pretty sure that that depth of the stock spacer is the 2.5", with 1" of that being above the door frame. Best way to figure it out is to roll the window down, get a ruler and measure the distance between the frame and window. (Which I should have done, but it fit so...)
MDF spacers were much easier to make than expected.... just got a big 4'x8' board that was 1/2", had them cut off two 10 inch by 4 foot sections at home depot, glued together and instant 1" mdf! Used the butchered 6.5" stock ring as a template and cut all 4 out the next day. (beware the mdf dust... it settles like snow!) Rest of that board will make a nice floor in my trunk and a new sub box
