Some of the guys argue on here of the worth of a Cap with a system but its 1 farad for every 1000 watts rms.

Caps have their uses. Especially if you got a sytem that pulls a lot of power and causes the alternator to work almost the entire time the system is on.

Some caps require that they be charged before install, very few require that they be discharged. You just have to check and see which way your cap is supposed to be installed. There's not much to worry about, unless you install it backwards.

And what moe says is good basis for caps.

Caps are not useless if your alternator does not have a problem keeping everything charged up. If your alternator is struggling already to keep up, then a capacitor will only add 1 more thing the alt has to charge causing even further strain on your alt and electrical system. Caps do not diminish headlight dimming. I am running over 1100 W in my other car that only has an 85A alternator and no light dimming.

Why is it that you want to install a cap? are there problems with your system?

To start wiring for "The Big Three" Is another option for the dimming lights.

Hmmm?

I'm not a total newb to car audio, even though I just got my max and got my system installed. What are the big 3?

One person recommended upgrading my big 3, and maybe a better battery. Could I get the new battery first to see if that fixes it? Or will my headlight dimming only be resolved if I do the battery and big 3? I don't have a huge system, which is why this is frustrating!

Will a voltmeter on the system when the stereo is on possibly tell me if my alternator/battery are taking a dump on me?

Other ideas?
