adapter for fitting a 5.25 into 6.5 or 6.75 hole

Hi,

I got myself a real good deal on some speakers but they are 5.25 instead of the 6.5 or 6.75 (according to some) holes in the front doors of my 4th gen. Is there an adapter i can buy or something i should/could make myself. Has this been done before? If i should make my own, what material should i use, plastic, wood, etc... and where would i get it. These are Focal Utopia which will be running aorund 100W, I need something sturdy so it doesnt rattle.

You could make some rings out of MDF or I believe that Crutchfield also sells a product such as this. I constructed my own out of MDF.

I made my own baffles for all of my speakers from MDF. You can buy MDF rings from Select Products also.

Made all my own as well. Even tho I still ran 6.5s. For front stage 1.25 of cone space is something that I wouldnt have sacrificed.

Is it okay to buy any wire at home depot, speaker, power, rca? Does the brand really matter or is generic home depot stuff good enough?

You will probably get a lot of different opinions on this. My opinion is that if you don't care about having a name brand, the generic Home Depot stuff will work fine. If your system sounds good to you after it's installed, that's all that matters.

Ok I went to home depot and lowes, the only MDF they have is 3/4 inch thick which would be too thich for a speaker adapter. As for the power cables, I dont think the metal in the stinger 0 guage is different than the one in the home depot 0 guage. The RCA and speaker wires are probably worth spending the extra money on.

I used 3/4" MDF for my rings. Worked just fine.

I needed a full inch of clearance for my door speakers, so I used 2 rings of 1/2" MDF with sound damping material sandwiched between.

There is plenty of space between the inner door sheet metal and the door panel. I still have plenty of room with my 1.25" baffles. I also have cosmetic trim rings that stick out 1.5" all the way around the speaker (to cover up the MDF rings) and there was no clearance problem with them, either.

thats some nice neat work Don

I went to Home Depot again and i even found 1/2" MDF now the problem is they only cut straight lines so i cant make a 1 piece circle or even a square with a hole inside. What would you guys suggest. I went to crutchfield and local shops, the adapters they have are plastic and i dont want it to rattle.

Cut your circles with a router or a jigsaw.
